Not playing at a cinema near you16:43 Wed 04 July 2007Interesting reading in the Guardian today about how an independent filmmaker, Mary McGuckian, is bypassing the cinema and going straight to the web with new films. Her site MoviePol (Movie Premiers Online) - which will launch at the end of the summer season - has the enticing strap line of "not playing at a cinema near you" and is the result of a continuing battle to hurdle the blockbusters into US cinemas. The aim is to "make quality independent international movies available worldwide – Anyone who has PC internet access can legally watch these never previously released movies in their home country" and the concept launched at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Definitely one to watch if you're a film fan.
